This piece is a maginificent example of our Israeli handmade Hamsa jewelry collection.
The Hamsa is an ancient motif that has become a universal sign of protection against the evil eye. The cut-out Hamsa that lies over the Sterling Silver Hamsa is engraved with "Ben Porat Yosef Alei Ayne", the verse used by Jacob on his deathbed to bless his beloved son Joseph in the book of Genesis."Porat" is related to fertility in Hebrew and "Ayne" to a spring of water. Essentially, this is a blessing for lasting abundance.
The phrase "Ben Porat Yosef" calls upon the merits of the righteous man Joseph and is often used as protection against the evil eye.
The Sterling Silver Hamsa is engraved with the Priestly Blessing that is recited in Synagogues in Israel on every Shabbat by the Priests of the people. It calls upon G-d to look favorably upon His people and to bless them with peace. This blessing is believed to provide Divine Protection and is recited en masse on the holidays of Succot and Pesach at the Western Wall in a moving ceremony as close to the original place it was recited in - in the Temple - as possible.
